the jbo - a muisical community

Building a community

It’s an open secret that the music of the 17th and 18th centuries possess rare qualities: music that corresponds with nature, man and really, the universe itself. This statement sounds far and big, but precisely with this perspective we see a natural connection between the soul and the muses – in a direct and equal manner for every ear.

The Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra has made a standpoint of bringing the most beautiful and genius music, together with timeless philosophies – to the stages, the audience and basically for everyone! This is how we open curious ears, stimulate the senses and receive countless new thoughts and old truths about our world. Thousands of our listeners over the years enjoy multifaceted and fascinating events and leave the concerts halls excited and open-minded.

We offer pupils, students and young people up to the age of 35 discounted and accessible tickets – only 40 NIS! To receive an automatic discount code – contact us!

And also – as a long-time musical institution in the city of Jerusalem, we collaborate with cultural institutions and many key figures in the city: we consider combining a concert with a tour of the Old City, a culinary afternoon or a field trip to the museum a multi-sensory, interesting and intriguing experience for any age and in any setting or organization, and we invite you to schedual  yourself a full day with added value – order a combined ticket at a significant discount through those institutions:

Educational activity

workshops

Conservatories & music majors: would you like to enrich your students with age-old and ever-relevant knowledge, with an emphasis on performance and education for excellence? Contact us to coordinate a workshop!

Training the next generations of historically informed performers in Israel is our mission, and we offer a variety of educational activities for young musicians.
The upcoming workshop will be open to advanced high school and academy students, and will offer exposure to the historically informed performance practices as used today, which include playing period instruments in historical tunings, proficiency in the theories of ornamentation and improvisation, deepening the ability to read ancient notation, and imparting the historical and theoretical knowledge necessary to specialize in the music of the Baroque.

At the workshop, master classes will be given for bow and wind instruments in which the students will work on their solo repertoire from the Baroque period. The students will also be part of chamber ensembles of various sizes, and will even experience orchestral playing.

The content will be guided by the leading players of the orchestra, all of whom have specializations from world-class institutions, such as the “Scola Cantorum” in Basel, the Royal Conservatory in Amsterdam, and the Juilliard School in New York. At the end of the workshop, a concluding concert will be held comprised of the participents.

The workshop is intended for students at an advanced general and artistic level, with an affinity for baroque music and historically informed performance. There is no need to already master the instruments of the period, and you can get there with the “regular” instruments (or bows). As far as the conditions allow, students will be given the opportunity to experience playing period instruments, and those interested will be offered the option of continuing to specialize in the field.

We are now working on a new workshop that will take place
in the summer of 2023 – all the details are soon to follow!
